So, when I thought I was done replacing the timing chain, I dropped a bolt in the bilge, and when I fished for it I also found this. Too shiny to have been there since the previous owner, plus I had driopped things before in the bilge and it is unlikely that it was there and I didn't find it before.At first I thought it was part of a tappet, given that they also have a spiral slot, but nope, nothing to do with tappets. Now the engine doesn't start, could this be from the injection pump?
